1. What information we collect
SnowDayScore does not currently use analytics, tracking cookies, or third-party tracking scripts. The core prediction tool, manual calculator, and quiz do not ask for your name, email address, or any account. The location you enter is used to retrieve weather data and generate your result. Once accuracy logging is active, limited location and prediction information may also be retained without names, email addresses, or account identifiers, and used in aggregate where practical, to evaluate model performance; see section 8 (Data retention) for how that will work. If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated first, with the new effective date noted at the top of this page.
2. Standard hosting logs
Like virtually every website, our hosting infrastructure automatically retains standard web server request logs (such as IP address, timestamp, and requested page) for a short period, solely for security, abuse prevention, and keeping the site running. This is a baseline function of the servers that deliver this site to your browser, not a feature we've added. If you use the contact form, see section 4 below for what that separately collects
3. Cookies and similar technologies
This site may use cookies or similar technologies for basic functionality only, such as remembering your last-checked location for convenience. These are not used for analytics or tracking. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect some convenience features but will not prevent you from using the core prediction tool
4. Contact form submissions
If you use the contact page to reach us, we collect whatever you choose to provide, which may include your name, email address, and the content of your message. This information is used only to respond to your inquiry, investigate a correction or bug report, or follow up on a district policy submission, and is not used for marketing or shared with third parties beyond what's needed to operate the contact form itself (such as an email delivery provider)
5. Third-party data providers
Weather forecast data is sourced from public meteorological agencies, including NOAA's National Weather Service, and from Open-Meteo, a free public weather API. To generate a result, your browser sends your location directly to these providers to request current conditions or an active alert; this happens directly between your browser and these third-party services, not through a SnowDayScore server in between. That means your IP address is visible to these providers as part of a normal weather data request, the same way it would be if you visited their websites directly. Neither provider receives your name, email, or any other identifying information from this site, since the tool never collects that information in the first place
6. Children's privacy
The core tool is designed to operate without requesting names, email addresses, or account credentials. We do not knowingly request personal information directly from children through the core prediction tool. A parent or guardian who believes a child has submitted personal information may contact us to request review and deletion.
7. How we use crowdsourced closure reports
If you use the "Report Today's Outcome" feature, we log the city, date, reported outcome (closed, delay, or open), and the prediction that was shown to you, in order to build our public accuracy record. This feature does not require or collect your name, email, or any other personal identifier.
8. Data retention
Crowdsourced closure reports and aggregate prediction-outcome data are retained indefinitely without names, email addresses, or account identifiers, and used in aggregate where practical, since they are the basis of the site's ongoing public accuracy record and are not linked to any individual's identity

9. Your choices and rights
Because the core tool does not require an account, there is generally no account profile to access, correct, or delete. If you contacted us through the contact form and want that information deleted or corrected, or if you believe any information about you has been collected in error, contact us through the contact page and we will investigate promptly.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected with an updated effective date at the top of this page.
